Is It Worth Buying a Micromax Phone?

If you don't know Micromax is India's second largest Smartphone Company just behind the leader Samsung and just ahead of  companies like Sony,Nokia, LG. Its people perception that its a Chinese phone manufacture but its a Indian homegrown smartphone maker which has gain its popularity by launching affordable but not necessarily top end phones under its Canvas series. It has itsits headquarter in GurgaonHaryanaIndia. Its also have its R&D labs and manufacturing plants in country. Its has tried to change people's perception about itself of just being affordable not top class phone maker by launching Canvas HD, Canvas 4 and recently launched Canvas Knight. Its has started it expansion outside the India in various country like RussiaBangladeshSri Lanka,Nepal and is looking forward to expand in Europe. It has its brand ambassador as Hugh Jackman.

But the real question lies, Is it worth to buy a Micromax phone?

Pros

  1. Dual sim: It was one of the first company in India to launch dual sim phone. Mostly all its phone have a dual sim option which is popular in developing country like India
  2. 3G/4G connectivity:  Adoption rate of 3G is increasing in India keeping this in mind all of its canvas phone come with 3G connectivity and also some from its less popular bolt series phone also feature 3G. Adoption of 4G is very low in India but still micromax committed to launch a phone with 4G TDD in late 2014
  3. Low price tag: Nothing to argue here. In India a cheap phone with some basic and good feature found in top end phone is always hit. We all know why Canvas 2 was such a big hit.
  4. Global company: Company recent expansion outside India and roping its brand ambassador as Hugh Jackman  has encouraged people to buy its phone. It also appeared in MWC 2014.  Micromax rank 12th in the world in smartphone shipment.

CONS

  1. Very slow Android upgrade: Micromax have enough resources to upgrade its phone but it lack in here. Its current flagship phone  Canvas Knight runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, similar to its previous flagship Canvas Turbo. In not 4.4.2 Kitkat at least 4.3 jellybean Micromax and if you see some of its LATEST bolt series phone they are running 4.0.3 Icecream sandwich.
  2. Bloatware attack: One would definitely see some of the micromax own apps  such as Security, M! Live, M! Unlock, M!Vault and some third party app like Spuul, Hike, Opera Mini ,BlackBerry, Truecaller and more. Sometime company also bundle games like Real Steel WRB, Where's My Perry and ,Where's My Water. At Least give option to uninstall them.
  3. After sale service: If we compare to some other brand like Samsung and Nokia its service is very disappointing. Also micromax own mini or full fledged retail shops are hard to find in cities. This is one of the problem every small smartphone manufacture faces.
  4. Battery and camera: These are something that depend from mobile to mobile but still mostly all the phone made by the company don't feature a good camera and battery. Even though it has 16MP camera in its flagship phone Canvas Knight but its quality can't be compare with 8MP camera of IPhone.

Pros with cons:

  1. MicroSD Slot: Mostly all weather its its Rs 5K or 20K phone all its phone have support for microSD card. But Micromax doesn't allow apps and games to be store on sd card its a major drawback as all the company phone's internal  memory is not so good except some.
  2. Design language: Design of phone is simple and some phones like Canvas Knight aluminum body is quite very good. But its not extraordinary and seems to a copy of IPhone and Samsung

Bottom Line
If you want a phone that  has decent look, top end feature and a low price tag and you don't care about the excess of bloatware, quick android upgrade and want to have a phone that can click picture to be uploaded on social networking site and can manage a with 7-8hrs of average battery life. Then Micromax phone is just made for you

Do tell us which Micromax Phone fascinate you the most? Have you use a micromax phone before? In future will micromax be you phone? Do tell us in comment below.

What is Nokia Android Phone? (Updated)

Update 3:
Nokia is officially launching its very first Android devices, known as the X , the X+ and the XL on stage at its annual Mobile World Congress press conference. Nokia says will give the advantage of the Android ecosystem, but with a "differentiated experience." So far, Here Maps, MixRadio, Skype and Outlook will be offered. You can access the Nokia and third party stores using the devices, but not Google Play, obviously. The Nokia X is available immediately, in countries including  India, for 89 Euros, while the Nokia X+ and the Nokia XL will be available in the second quarter of this year for 99 Euros and 109 Euros respectively.

Update 2:

  • Nokia just change its profile colour to green on all its social networks.(not quite as android)
      • Update Nokia has reverted back to its signature Blue colour.
  • Nokia also send its invitation for MWC some weeks back which was also green. So its could be either green = environment  or green = android .
  • Vietnamese online retailer price the Nokia Normandy near the price tag of  $110
  •  Smartphone vendors pay a license fee to Google to get services like the Google’s Play app store, Google Maps, Gmail and others. However, Nokia won't use any of Google’s services and will instead implement its own and Microsoft services, which means it won't have to pay Google any licensing fee.
  •  Nokia has already developed its own app store for the platform(NO Google Playstore and IT APPSwhich already have most of the top 100 apps on the store.
Update 1:
Its expected to be introduce in MWC and to be launch in month of March. Expected price is sub $100.It is also rumor that the Nokia X will come in 6 different color options. The Nokia X embodies Nokia's Asha line design language A polycarbonate body is what encases the device within, and even signature Asha cues, like the left chevron (the '<' symbol) capacitive button are making an appearance. In fact, being likened to the Asha line has given rise to a an alternative theory that the Nokia X may be, after all, a new generation of Asha.

Much have been said, heard and read about Nokia's Android phone codenamed 'Normandy' and it could soon be a reality now. The handset is designed as the next step in low-end phones from the Finnish smartphone maker. We know that Nokia has been testing “Normandy” with a special modified variant of Android, like to what Amazon does with its Kindle Fire line.

UI of the Phone

Specification Known

According to the Vietnamese online listing, the alleged Nokia X will come with a 4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 480 x 854 (FWVGA) pixels; 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor; 5-megapixel rear camera; microSD card support and running Android 4.4 KitKat.Further, the listing seemingly confirms that the rumoured Nokia X will come with dual-SIM support, while connectivity options including 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, AGPS and Micro-USB. Other specifications include 4GB of inbuilt storage and Adreno 302 GPU.Its definitely true that this device is a budget phone and will run highly modified version of android kitkat which look likes windows phone but will let users access the Google Play Store.
BUT what exactly is Nokia doing with this android phone when their Mobile business is going to sell to the microsoft.
  • I think Nokia is doing this to ensure that the deal between Microsoft and Nokia don't scrape off as microsoft will be afraid that its ONLY windows OEM will shift to android.(which is most likely not to happen)
  • Also as from the leaks we have seen that the UI phone is similar to the Windows phone so I may be possible that microsoft is only doing this to let people experience windows UI but with android under hood. This will ensure that people will get to know windows phone better and in future people will buy windows phone .
